What is the darkest legal tint in California?

In Clovis, as everywhere in California, the darkest legal tint depends on which windows you're doing. You can go as dark as 5% (limo tint) on the rear side windows and rear windshield, provided the vehicle has dual side mirrors. Front side windows must allow at least 70% Visible Light Transmission, which means aftermarket film on factory glass needs to be around 88% VLT or higher to stay street-legal. The windshield can only be tinted in the top 4 inches above the AS-1 line, and it must be non-reflective. Red, amber and blue tints are prohibited on any window statewide. How soon after buying a new car should I get it coated?

As soon as you can. New paint is in its best condition, so little or no correction is needed first, which keeps the cost down and gets the coating bonded before its first Central Valley summer. If the car already has some miles on it we'll check whether it needs correcting before we coat it.

Will a chrome delete last through Central Valley summers?

Yes, when it's installed properly. We use quality vinyl rated for outdoor use and wrap the edges so heat and sun can't get underneath. A car parked outside year-round will age faster than a garaged one, but you should get years out of it — and any single piece can be redone later without touching the rest.

Does the film protect my lights as well as darken them?

Yes. It's a protective layer as well as a shade, so it takes the rock chips and sandblasting that would otherwise hit the lens itself. On a car covering a lot of highway miles, that protection is often worth as much as the look is.

How long does headlight and taillight tinting take?

Most vehicles are done the same day, usually within a few hours. It depends on how many lights you're doing and whether anything needs to come off the car to get a clean wrapped edge. We'll confirm the timing when we quote.

Is headlight and taillight tint removable?

Yes. It's a film applied over the lens rather than a paint or dye, so it can be taken off and the original lens is untouched underneath. That makes it easy to change shade later, or return the car to stock before you sell it.

Will tinting my headlights make them too dim at night?

A light or medium shade changes the look noticeably with only a modest reduction in output. Very dark films do cut brightness in a way you'll feel on unlit roads. It's worth telling us how you drive — someone covering a lot of unlit rural miles around the Valley should stay lighter than someone mostly on lit streets.
